Line Drawing

The use of lines in such a way that the outline and primary aspects of an object emerge.

Presentation showed in class

Blind Contour

Picture
Drawing an image using contour lines without looking at your paper. (Multiple Drawings done in class from still lives & partners)

Continuous Line

Picture
Picture
A continuous line drawing is produced without ever lifting the drawing instrument from the page. This means that, in addition to outlines and internal shapes, the pencil must move back and forth across the surface of the paper, with lines doubling back on each other, so that the drawing is one free-flowing, unbroken line. (Sketchbook Assignment)

Cross Contour

Picture
A cross contour drawing contains parallel lines that run across the surface of an object (or radiate from a central point), such as those that appear on a topographical map or a digital wireframe.

Gesture

Picture
Picture
Picture
The use of lines that are energetic, capture movement and gestures of action. (Multiple Drawings done in class from models projected on the screen)

Contour Drawing

Picture
Picture
The use of lines that describe the shape of an object and the interior detail. A contour drawing shows the outlines, shapes and edges of a scene, but omits fine detail, surface texture, color and tone

Your Mission:

Find a image that you want to work with, it can be a portrait or an object, your only requirement is that the image has detail that you can work with (Check with me, I will tell you if it is too simple)
You then will draw on the printed image how your contour lines will be drawn as seen in the images above.
Your next step is to re-create the image only using cross contour lines on a separate piece of drawing paper, as seen below. Don't Forget you do need a background!
