Summer Assignment: Sketchbook
AP Studio Art (Drawing/Digital 2D) Summer assignment:
Brainstorming, drawing, and painting in your sketchbook are necessary in order to explore
artistically. It is not important to make perfect drawings, but all pages need to be completed.
Remember to go off the edge whenever possible. Fill in at least 25 pages before school starts.
Do not draw from published photographs or images; draw from observation and your own
photographs. Get used to never leaving the house without your camera and/or sketchbook.
Following assignments need to be included:
- Two self-portrait drawings
- Two portrait drawings of other people
- 5 figurative drawings
- 3 still life drawings
- 3 landscape drawings
Use different media in your sketchbook; draw with pens, markers, pastels, and paint. Have fun
working in it.

Color
You are going to turn in a series of Photographs based on color. This is not a bunch of images of red flowers. Your final images should consist of 24 images taken over the span of the summer that is focusing on images that are dominate in a single color. You can photograph people, you can photograph at the market, you can do this however you want. Just be able to justify what choices you made. When we look at your images, we want to be able to say, ok, that is orange. Be creative, take risks, if something sounds silly or weird, even better.

The AP Art and Design portfolios will each consist of two sections:
1. Sustained Investigation (60% of exam score) For all three portfolios, students will submit images and writing to document their inquiry-guided investigation through practice, experimentation, and revision: w 15 digital images that include works of art and design and process documentation. w Typed responses to prompts, providing information about the questions that guided their investigation and how they practiced, experimented, and revised, guided by their questions.
